The Workshop:

With a combined 55 years as cancer survivors, Jan Adrian and Terri Tate are all too familiar with the pitfalls of that journey. High among them is the overwhelming confusion when choosing from the vast array of healing modalities available. Whether we are dealing with an illness or not, we are constantly confronted by an infinite number of choices. Which kind of yogurt should I buy? What supplements do I need? Which diet is best for me?

How are we to choose from so many alternatives? Many of us have a niggling belief that there is “one right way,” if only we were smart enough to figure it out. And then we are hard on ourselves because we can’t. Since each healing journey is unique, it is also not possible to copy anyone else’s plan. This confusion, fear and self-criticism can inhibit healing and add stress to an already difficult situation.

We believe that each of us possesses internal wisdom as to what constitutes healing for us. Dr. Kelly Turner’s research on spontaneous remissions identified nine factors that were consistent for all of the survivors she interviewed. Her best-selling book, Radical Remission, lists and describes these strategies for healing. Two of them are:

  • Taking charge of your own healing.
  • Accessing and strengthening your intuition.

Many people need assistance, encouragement, and support to muster the courage to take charge of their own healing, and to tap into their intuitive knowing, especially when it contradicts conventional wisdom. In this workshop, we will assist participants in accessing your internal wisdom to make decisions related not only to your healing, but to all aspects of your lives. During this informative and fun-filled day, we will explore a variety of methods for finding and trusting our inner guidance.

Instructors:

Jan Adrian, MSW

When Jan Adrian, MSW, was diagnosed with cancer, she wanted to focus on healing the whole person instead of curing the body only. Not finding resources available for this, she founded Healing Journeys, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and created the Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving To Thriving™ conference. During Jan’s 29 years of living with cancer, she has had three primary cancers, numerous local recurrences, and currently is living with breast cancer metastasized to the lungs. She is the Executive Director of Healing Journeys and was previously the co-director of the Center for Health Awareness in San Jose, CA. www.healingjourneys.org

Terri Tate, RN, MS

Terri Tate, RN, MS, is a nationally recognized speaker, author and humorist. She had a 2% chance of surviving disfiguring oral cancer, which was first diagnosed in 1991. Since Terri regained her voice, she has inspired audiences around the country with her spirited stories, using lessons from her own struggle to support those facing life challenges. In 2007, with the help of the Lloyd Symington Foundation, she produced a DVD of her hilarious one-woman show, Shopping as a Spiritual Path, which was distributed to cancer agencies that reach the underserved.

Terri chronicles finding her own internal wisdom and crafting her healing path in her memoir, A Crooked Smile, with an introduction by Anne Lamott, which was published in November, 2016 by Sounds True. www.acrookedsmile.com and www.territate.com
