Today, December 8th, would be Janโs 84th birthday (Happy Birthday, Jan!).
Remembering the many gifts Jan gave to us all, below is the link to another one — a recent interview with Debra Jarvis. Debra, an ordained minister, has been a hospital and hospice chaplain for over 35 years.
Recorded on 09/09/25, the interview, Mattering, is 27 minutes of the essence of Jan: generous, enlightening, and uplifting.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 1โ3pm PST on January 24, 2026, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento. For those who cannot attend, the ceremony will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/@uusstv?si=OrCskAuuypO7HWqo.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Jan!
So glad you were born, Jan. The world was blessed by your presence, and you helped make it a better place for all. Love & Blessings on your next journey! ๐
That was a lovely tribute to and by a lovely soul. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks to Debra for bringing us this gift from Jan on her birthday! It’s wonderful just hearing her voice again plus her final pearls of wisdom. I loved her answer to what surprised her most: that she was actually going to die of cancer after so many years of survival. So honest, succinct and with a touch of Jan’s humor. What a blessing she continues to be….she mattered immensely!
Thank you so much for sharing this, Debra, Jan, & whomever else was responsible. It was very meaningful & inspiring.
Jan and I were roommates the last year of college at Fresno State. I miss her.
So happy to remember Jan. I have little reminders of her in my healing space.
Thank you, Debra, for sharing this and so great to hear Jan’s voice. I felt so blessed to be able to speak at her first conference in Monterey in 1994 and a few others plus got to attend her final conference. Jan – you mattered to me and thousands of others making a difference in our lives. You gave so much of yourself and shared your wealth of knowledge with us, helping make our lives better. Love and miss you dear friend.
