Dear Friends,
In October I attended the Cancer as a Turning Point™ conference in San Mateo, CA. Many friends and colleagues joined me at this amazing event, several for the first time. Some came because they personally were dealing with cancer in their lives and others came as caring healthcare professionals.
Still others wanted to know what had caught my heart’s attention and stirred me to become a member of the board for Healing Journeys. It’s not usually how I would choose to spend my time or energy. But Healing Journeys is different.
We present Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving™, a FREE conference for anyone touched by cancer, although I say it’s for any one with a heart.
My friends couldn’t thank me enough for inviting them into a world where whole people matter, where feelings and emotions are respected, and there is space and time available for individuals to express themselves safely. My husband, a physician, was amazed at how much he learned as well as how touched and inspired he was by the diversity of speakers. He told me he felt he belonged there as much as the woman without any hair sitting behind him. The two of them even got to dance together!
Within several days of the conference a friend told me about a painful death that had just happened in her life and how the conference had prepared her for it. A client who attended with her husband reported he is now part of a support group for family members of people living with cancer. He said at the conference he loved being surrounded by others who could understand him without giving him "that look."
After hearing how much the conference meant to people I care about, my reason for supporting Healing Journeys once again became clear. I want to help us continue to put on these life affirming celebrations for free. I am here to express my continued commitment to Healing Journeys and to ask for your support, too. Please help keep us going during these financially challenging times.
In the coming year we hope to expand our outreach to new areas and are excited for the people who will be experiencing the transformative Cancer as a Turning Point conference for the first time. It must remain free to those whose resources are limited or depleted. Your financial support is essential.
