Dear Friends,

In less than a month our Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving™ free conference will be held in Denver. Since we haven't offered a conference in Denver before, we are including some of the presenters you have enjoyed in other cities. Plus this will be the first Healing Journeys conference for Michael Finkelstein, MD.

Dr. Finkelstein, author of Slow Medicine: Hope and Healing for Chronic Illness, has many years of accompanying patients and family members through the cancer journey. Over the years, as he chose to leave the world of conventional medicine and delve into the world of integrative medicine, Dr. Finkelstein discovered that the most effective approach to cancer was embracing it as an opportunity instead of framing it as a battle. Rather than making cancer the focus by fighting the disease, patients have grown beyond the challenge and thrived despite their diagnosis, by optimizing every area of their lives on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels – effectively cultivating the "terrain" of a life that not only is passionate and joyous but, as a by-product, is inhospitable to cancer.

Lise Alschuler, ND and Karolyn Gazella, co-authors of The Definitive Guide to Cancer and The Definitive Guide to Thriving After Cancer will also talk about strategies to create a body that is inhospitable to cancer.

Presentations will also include the languages of the spirit – music and humor. Harpist Susan Mazer and woodwinds performer Dallas Smith, most known for their extraordinary sound which merges the aesthetics of jazz, classical, and world music, will provide an experience that feeds both the intellect and the spirit.

When Jonna Tamases has performed her one-woman show, Jonna's Body, Please Hold, people in the audience often have said that alone was worth the trip, no matter how far they traveled. Here is what one person said about her last year in Campbell:

Unbelievable! Moving, inspiring, fun and sad. Jonna is an excellent performer. I could watch her all day. I think she gave the strongest messages thru humor and honesty. Her work will remain with me for longer than even the best speakers.

• The brochures for the free Cancer as a Turning Point conference, in Denver on September 12th, have been mailed out. Since this is our first event in Colorado, our mailing list for the area is small. We are grateful to those of you who have asked for extra brochures to share with your friends, oncologist's office, local hospitals, medical clinics, alternative practitioners that support cancer treatments, neighbors, etc.
