Sutter and UC Davis Cancer Centers are joining with Healing Journeys and members of the Sacramento health care community to bring Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving™ to Sacramento.  This is an award-winning FREE two-day event for anyone touched by cancer - patients, survivors, their friends and family, support persons, and healthcare providers. September 13 & 14, 2008 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento. Pre-registration is recommended.

Keynote speakers include Jeremy Geffen, MD; Ed Bauman, PhD; Emmett Miller, MD; Jonna Tamases; actor, and Gary Malkin; composer.  Musical presenters include Linda Tillery, Ann Roach, and Jami Sieber. In addition, healing stories will be shared by several local cancer thrivers.

A purpose of this event is to promote healing of the whole person (mind, body, spirit, and emotion).Attendees leave the conference knowing they are not alone, empowered with knowledge to augment their medical program, inspired by the stories of others, and moved by the power of music and laughter.

Komen Foundation to bring Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving™ to Sacramento.  This is an award-winning FREE two-day event for anyone touched by cancer.  Patients, their friends and family, support persons, and healthcare providers are all invited to attend. 

Cancer as a Turning Point, From Surviving to Thriving™, called “A Broadway show for the soul”, is designed to educate, inspire, celebrate, and connect those touched by cancer. The conference includes speakers, performers, music, humor, healing stories, and networking time - all aimed at supporting healing, activating hope, and promoting thriving. Among the many speakers are Jeremy Geffen, MD; Ed Bauman, PhD; and Emmett Miller, MD. Musicians include Linda Tillery, Ann Roach, and Jami Sieber. Dramatic presentations include Jonna’s Body, please hold and An Inconvenient Tumor.

A purpose of this event is to promote healing of the whole person (mind, body, spirit, and emotion). Objectives include rediscovering the healing capacity of the human spirit, facilitating healing from within as an essential component of total health, experiencing the physical and emotional benefits of group support, and facilitating networking among people with common cancer experiences and concerns. Attendees leave the conference knowing they are not alone, empowered with knowledge to augment their medical program, inspired by the stories of others, and stirred by the power of music and laughter, languages of the soul.

Since 1994 Healing Journeys has produced the Turning Point conference twenty-three times nationally.  The last California conference was in San Francisco in 2006.  The conference is free, but pre-registration is recommended.  Continuing education units are available for a cost for RN, MFT, and LCSW.
